Amethyst is the birthstone for February, and comes in shades of purple, lilac or mauve. A beautiful clear gem which was also popular in Victorian times. As the gem is tilted and rotated it will show a bluish or reddish purple tinge when viewed.

Garnet is the birthstone for January. Most commonly recognised as a reddish-brown stone, suprisingly it can also be a pinkish red and even green. The rich colour of garnet looks luxurious set in gold, and looks wonderful as a necklet or earrings in a setting which brings out it colour.

Legend even has it that Noah suspended garnet in the Ark in order to disperse light. Garnet is also said to ‘cure melancholy and warm the heart’.

Topaz is the birthstone for November, and when set in gold and worn around the neck, is reputed to ‘dispel bad omens, heal poor vision, and calm anger’. Topaz occurs in a range of different colours including pink, blue, green and sherry colours. The blue variety of Topaz is the famously electric blue colour, but it also comes in a lighter blue shade similar to aquamarine.
